Boppo Quickstart Guide
Use this guide to set up your Boppo tablet! Scroll down for help with set up, troubleshooting, first activities to try, and more.

Setting up Boppo
Grab your phone and let's get Boppo ready to play!
Before you start, you'll need
- Your phone, with Bluetooth turned on
- Your Wi-Fi network name and password

Download the Boppo app
Get the free Boppo app from the App or Google Play Store.

Create your account
Open the app and create an account, or log in if you already have one.

Power on
Press and hold the Power button for about 3 seconds to turn Boppo on.

Turn on Bluetooth and location
The app will ask for Bluetooth and location access. Location is what lets your phone scan for nearby devices like Boppo. Keep your Wi-Fi password handy for the next steps.

Let the app find your Boppo
A new Boppo starts in pairing mode on its own, with orange lights circling around the buttons. If the app can't find it, check the troubleshooting tips below.

Connect to Wi-Fi
Choose your Wi-Fi network and enter the password. Boppo will tell you out loud once it's connected.

Let Boppo update
Boppo downloads the latest games and activities right away. Keep it plugged in and take the quick tour in the app while you wait.

Start pushing buttons
That's it! Press any button once to hear what it is, then press it again to jump in to the category of activities.
The basics
Getting around Boppo
Turn on and off
Press and hold the Power button for about 3 seconds.
Back to the menu
Press and hold Home to go back to the main menu from anywhere.
Hear it, then play it
Press any button once to hear what it is. Press it again to jump in.
Louder or quieter
Use the volume buttons to turn the sound up or down.
Open settings
Press Home and Power at the same time for Wi-Fi, updates, and more.
Adjust brightness
Press and hold Home and a volume button to change how bright the lights are.
Pop on a Toppo. Everything changes.
Toppos are themed add-ons that turn Boppo into a whole new world.
Set it on top
Place the Toppo right over Boppo's buttons.
Downloading
Make sure Boppo is on and connected to Wi-Fi. The first time you use a new Toppo, Boppo downloads everything it needs.
Straight into play
Boppo recognizes the Toppo and launches right into the experience.
Tips
Get the most out of Boppo
Plug in overnight
When Boppo is plugged in and turned off, it checks for new games and updates on its own. The light turns blue while it's updating.
Ready for road trips
A full charge gives you hours of play. Plug headphones into the headphone jack for car rides, flights, and quiet mornings.
Add your own audiobooks
Upload DRM-free MP3s in the Audiobooks tab of the app.
Get new activities first
Turn on Beta Tester Mode in Settings and your Boppo gets new games early.
Can't decide? Press Surprise.
The Surprise Activity button picks something fun for you.
Headphones
Kids seem to really love using Boppo with headphones! Get them immersed in our interactive stories and songs using the headphone jack.
Troubleshooting
Something not working?
The app can't find my Boppo
Run through these quick checks:
- Boppo is turned on and plugged in.
- Bluetooth is turned on on your phone.
- Location access is allowed for the Boppo app. Your phone needs it to find nearby Bluetooth devices.
- Boppo is in pairing mode, with orange lights circling around the buttons.
To put Boppo in pairing mode:
- Press Home and Power at the same time to open Settings.
- Choose Wi-Fi Settings.
- Press the orange button to add a network.
Once the orange lights are circling, head back to the app and try again. If you've already left setup, tap "Setup a Tablet" in the devices menu at the top right or in the Settings tab.
Boppo won't connect to Wi-Fi
- Double check your Wi-Fi password. It's case sensitive.
- Move Boppo closer to your router.
- Some guest and work networks block devices from talking to each other. Try your home network instead.
Not sure if Boppo is online? Open Settings (Home and Power at the same time) and choose Check for Updates. If Boppo says it's all up to date or starts downloading, you're connected. If it says it was unable to look online, run setup again to re-enter your Wi-Fi details.
Boppo is set up, but the app can't reach it
- Make sure your phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as Boppo.
- Turn off any VPN on your phone.
On an iPhone? The app needs Local Network access:
- Open your iPhone Settings and tap Boppo.
- Turn on Local Network.
- Reopen the Boppo app and try again.
Boppo is frozen or not responding
Try a soft reset. Nothing will be deleted.
- Unplug Boppo from the charger.
- Press and hold the Power button for a full 30 seconds.
I want to start fresh
A factory reset puts Boppo's settings back to how they came out of the box, including Wi-Fi. Your uploaded music and audiobooks stay put.
- Press Home and Power at the same time to open Settings.
- Press the red button twice to open Factory Reset.
- Press and hold the red button.
- Wait for the reset to finish. It can take about a minute.
An update won't download
First, make sure Boppo is connected to Wi-Fi. Then open Settings and choose Check for Updates. Boppo will let you know how it's going.

A Toppo isn't launching
The first time you use a new Toppo, Boppo needs Wi-Fi to download it. Make sure Boppo is connected, then lift the Toppo off and set it back on top of the buttons.
Known phone and router issues
Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, and Note 9: these phones can't send Wi-Fi details to Boppo during setup. Use our USB setup page or set up Boppo with a different phone. You can still use your phone to control Boppo afterward.
Verizon CR1000A and CR1000B routers: these routers block the app from talking to Boppo. We're working on a fix.
